Inflection point in the Education System

Is this a turning point in the education system? How to adapt to this new reality and keep the engineer of knowledge on move? A teaching methodology that was seen with little or no effectiveness becomes the most plausible solution in the current situation.

In 2014, Law 12,796 / 2013 was approved, which requires a minimum attendance of 60% in classes in pre-school education. In higher education, the required frequency rises to 75%. With the global pandemic and the suspension of presencial classes for undefined time, home schooling and online educational with validated presence becomes the only way out of delaying 2020 school year.

Is this a turning point in the education system? How to adapt to this new reality and keep the engineer of knowledge on move? A teaching methodology that was seen with little or no effectiveness becomes the most plausible solution in the current situation.

According to data from Inep, there are about 48 million students in the basic network and another 6 million in presencial higher education who will have changed routines due to the lockdown of public and private education institutions. The Ministry of Education has authorized the use of remote tools. The platforms should be used in vast majority by the private education network, which had already been considering the implementation of the technology inside the classrooms.

Since Monday the 23rd, Somos Educação of the Cogna group (ex-Kroton), connects 1.3 million children in basic education by remote transmissions and private networks are already preparing for the implementation of this resource. In Rio de Janeiro, a partnership with Google allows online classes for public school students if they remain closed for more then three months.

“It is not the strongest that survives, nor the most intelligent, but the one that best adapts to changes”

We are experiencing a global change movement that requires readjustments. It is worth remembering the famous phrase: “It is not the strongest that survives, nor the most intelligent, but the one that best adapts to changes”. The moment will require more than online platforms, as well as a personal commitment of each student to education.

With monitoring and guidance from parents or supervisors, students can consume and absorb even more information, enjoying time in a productive, sustainable and fun way. NTICS Projects makes available on the website of the Cultural Education Program P.E.C complementary materials and workshops that encourage students to become protagonists and transforming agents in their community. By accessing the site, both students and teachers are able to find out about topics that helps building a more sustainable world. (https://www.ntics.com.br/eufacoparte/#)

Accessing the PED #eufaçoparte Education and Diversity Program website (http://www.ntics.com.br/eufacoparteped/) on the “Student” tab, additional workshops and materials are also available, this time teaching about the SDGs (Objectives Sustainable Development). Teachers can also have access to workshops and materials in the “Teachers” tab.

Institutions such as Fundação Getúlio Vargas (FGV), the online course platform Udemy, Amazon, Forbes, SENAI, Olhar de Cinema +, among others are already providing content, certified courses, videos and other materials for this quarantine period.

We have prepared a series of tips on how to readjust the routine and have access to content and teaching platforms:

1) Organization.

Even at home, it is essential to plan an organized routine and be able to enjoy time with maximum productivity. Set up an organized space for your child so that he can focus without too many distractions and feel he isn’t in a “home” environment. Make a list of tasks for the day with a management of how much time he will spend dedicating himself to each demand.

2) Good references.

Share content references, portals, workshops and books. Show him where to look or leave platforms and activities that he will have to participate during the day prepared and opened on his the computer. Look for activities and content that are fun and of interest to you.

3) Time management.

Set aside at least 1 hour of your day to follow your child’s progress and learning. Try to interact with him by participating in activities, helping with reading and correcting and guiding the exercises. Organize your time so that it doesn’t harm your home office and be able to provide assistance if necessary.

The pandemic generated a positive reflex, providing awareness in favor of a single goal. The concern in “BEING” starts to be prioritized over that of “HAVING”, since everyone is surfing the same wave. It caused an inflection point not only in the education system, but in society and in all segments. The change starts from the inside out and therefore it is necessary to adapt to get the best out of the situation. Organization, planning, focus, effort and positivity are key words that must be implemented not only today, but from now on.
